One of the most frequent questions that I receive is, "How do you hang art?" This is a really good question and it’s important to provide a relevant answer.
However, the answer is certainly not universal, or as straightforward as it seems. There are a plethora of considerations, but in short the answer would be: It depends. It depends on a multitude of factors, including but not limited to, physical stability and aesthetic relevance. For physical stability one might consider: How large is the artwork? How heavy is the piece? What type of hanging mechanism does the artwork have vs. what type of hanging mechanism SHOULD it employ? What type of surface will it be hung from?... diamond plaster, drywall, brick, wood, cinder block, masonry board?
In regards to aesthetic relevance, some considerations are: Where to hang the artwork? What objects will be around the piece, once it is in place? How high or low should it be hung? What are the personal preferences of the client and what makes a piece important to them? How should the diversity or similarity of the art be displayed? These are some of the facets of art of installation.
The most satisfying part of my work is contributing to a beautiful living space for others, being able to work with artwork and unique objects for a living, and sharing the pride and appreciation of the end product with my clients.
